Yahoo! To Lose 10% Of Workforce
Yahoo! CEO Jerry Yang announced in a memo today that 10% of his employees were going to lose their jobs. Here are excerpts:
affected employees will be notified of layoffs in the next several weeks. we understand that hearing this news now creates uncertainty, but we are moving ahead in a way that balances speed with a clear focus on accomplishing what is necessary to set the organization up for long term success. going forward it will continue to be important for us to make the right decisions to keep our business efficient and strong.
So there you have it. I can’t help but wonder if things were going to be different had Yahoo! accepted Microsoft’s buyout. Oh well, there’s no sense in clinging to the past at this point.
We wish the affected employees all the best. It’s tough enough to deal with the possibility of unemployment. It’s even tougher to have the whole world know about it.
