XP vs Vista: A Tale Of Two Service Packs

It’s a question that only a few will ask, but it’s so crucial that they would be willing to pay for it, or at least think about paying for it, should the situation demand it. Microsoft launched the Games for Windows initiative to entice gamers to upgrade to Windows Vista, but more than a few reports indicate that XP is still the better gaming OS. With the release of SP3 for XP and SP1 for Vista, did that position change? Excerpts:

As many a tech analyst predicted, Windows Vista’s gaming performance conundrum has largely been solved, and it was mainly due to early graphics drivers. Love it or hate it, Vista is performing far better than it used to.

It took about a year and a half, but the performance gap between Vista and its forerunner has finally evaporated.

Note that the key here lies in the final statement. The obvious performance gap between XP and Vista is now gone, making both systems equally suitable in terms of running games. The difference now lies in other factors, like stability, DirectX versions, etc.
