Windows XP Gets Another Extension

Thumbnail image for microsoft-logo.jpg

Windows XP’s lifeline just got another extension as Microsoft allowed custom PC makers to continue using the aging operating system through June 30, 2009. Is Windows XP that good or is Vista that bad?

The date for system builders to order their copies of XP remains January 31, 2009, as Microsoft stated last year. But system builders can take order of those XP copies more gradually — through May 30 — instead of having to horde them all by January 31, as first noted by CRN.

Indirectly, it’s another entry in the long list of faults for Windows Vista. The extension is going to give people more time to delay upgrading to the new operating system. I wonder if this will continue to last until Windows 7 comes out. Some are probably hoping it will.
