Windows 7 Developer’s Build Leaked

Windows 7 is out, but not in the way that you and I should be getting it. The next version of Microsoft’s operating system was released as a preview build for developers last week. Predictably, it appeared on BitTorrent sites shortly after.

The notorious Pirate Bay site, for example, first noted the 32-bit version of the upcoming operating system on Oct. 29, just one day after Microsoft unveiled Windows 7 to attendees at its Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles. A 64-bit edition was posted the following day.

The 32-bit edition had 1,400 seeders last Sunday. That means that 1,400 people had a complete copy of the software and were sharing it with everyone else. The 64-bit version had lower numbers, but that’s to be expected. When it’s all said done, one has to wonder what the users who downloaded the developer’s build are going to do with Windows 7. And no, “developing programs” doesn’t sound like a common answer.
