Windows 7 Could Be Out Earlier Than Expected

The next version of Windows, running under the name “Windows 7″ for now, has been receiving a lot of attention lately due to speculation about its scheduled release. Microsoft has stated that it expects to release the next version of its operating system three years after Vista, which debuted in January 2007. There are rumors spreading that we might see Windows 7 earlier than its projected 2010 release.

Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates said on Friday he expected the new version of Windows operating software, code-named Windows 7, to be released “sometime in the next year or so.”

I’m actually looking forward to this more than making the nearly-inevitable Windows Vista upgrade. From a gaming perspective, I don’t think it’s very good operating system. I’d rather have my hardware resources put their energy into powering up my games rather than wasting them on my OS. Let’s just hope that Microsoft has learned from its mistakes with Vista and present a more convincing upgrade package with Windows 7.
