Will Windows 7 Bring Touchscreen Gaming?

Windows 7 is Microsoft’s next operating system, currently under development and eagerly anticipated, especially by the crowd who wants to skip Vista altogether. If there’s one thing that we haven’t seen yet with the new version is how it will handle gaming. PC gaming has been doomed to death since the last generation of consoles. Since it’s still around and shows no serious signs of stopping, what’s going to happen to it with Windows 7?

A recent article posits that touchscreen gaming could be next. It’s easy to see how this can apply to games, particularly to strategy titles where units are laid out and commands can be issued with the touch of the screen. What’s tougher to imagine is the hardware behind it. Touchscreen games will require touchscreen devices, so are we going to see Dell, HP and the like ship monitors like that? There’s also the question of comfort. I’m pretty sure you can see how unnatural it is to touch your monitor for a prolonged period of time. It feels simpler to do that with a table. Microsoft already has that with Surface, but it’s not a device for home use right now.

Regardless of how it all works out, Windows 7 is going to be interesting to see. If it brings touchscreens to homes, it will bring Microsoft to the forefront of technology once again.
