Why Chrome? Here’s A Maybe
Considering yesterday’s news about the Google Chrome, you might be asking “what’s it for?”. Browsers are plentiful: you’ve got the installed-by-default IE, the popular Firefox and then a few others in between. Why would Google want to join the fray? Well, here’s a theory:
Google is going to do with Chrome what Microsoft is doing with .NET and Silverlight — create a web-based application deployment platform that is fully optimized for use with Google’s online services, such as their core search engine, their Google Office suite, GMail, Google Maps, Google Base, and Google Everything Else.
There’s more to it, of course, and those who love Google will not like everything they read. Note that this is just one theory. It’s an interesting one, yes, but we won’t know just how much of an impact Chrome will make until we read full reviews of how good (or how bad) it is. We’re likely to see a few later this week, so we’ll you posted.
