U.S. President Obama Gives An iPod To Queen Elizabeth

Reports of a state visit don’t usually fit in a tech blog, but when the exchange of items and pleasantries involve gadgets and gizmos, then the gloves come off. U.S. President Barack Obama gave an iPod to Queen Elizabeth II when he and his wife visited Buckingham Palace this week. The portable media player contained photos and video of her trip to the U.S. back in 2007, among other things.
She also received a rare songbook signed by the composer Richard Rodgers. According to news reports, the queen gave the Obamas a silver-framed signed photograph — a gift she gives to all visiting dignitaries.
The act unofficially makes the iPod a significant part of Americana. It’s quite a publicity boost for Apple, but one has to wonder if what happened has other underlying implications. Of course, there’s also the question of what tunes the queen rocks to.
