Top 10 Most Pirated Movies via BitTorrent
Technology, like everything in life, has a darker side. Movie piracy has run rampant since the debut of BitTorrent a few years back, and for a large section of the online populace it’s become almost second nature to download a film rather than purchase.
Since so many people make use of torrents for such illicit purposes, it makes up a fantastic sample from a statistical standpoint to find out what everybody’s watching. Thankfully the find folks over at TorrentFreak have begun publishing weekly lists of the most downloaded movie torrents. You can add the RSS for the weekly lists right here. And so, without further adieu, the 10 most downloaded films for the week ending October 6th, 2008.

While most of the list makes sense, the inclusion of the recent TV version of The Andromeda Strain really surprised me. As you might have guessed from my earlier comments, I expected the list to give us a good insight into what the world is watching. Judging by the genres of film represented, maybe it tells us more about who is downloading than what is popular.
