The Sansa Connect: Mobile Music Over Wi-Fi

Those of you looking for iPod alternatives need not limit your options to Microsoft’s Zune or Creative’s Zen series. According to a review from Computer World, there’s a better portable music player around, and it’s from a manufacturer that’s not exactly known for its prominence in that specific market. Excerpts from the review:

SanDisk Corp.’s Sansa Connect Wi-Fi-enabled media player is the first significant rethinking of portable media players — and how we acquire digital media — since Apple Inc.’s introduction of the iPod and the iTunes online media store several years ago. In other words, the Sansa Connect dramatically increases what you can do with your media player and, for the first time, highlights the potential of subscription music services.

This being a first version of a new product, there are a few missing pieces, but they’re mostly the type of omissions you notice only in a device so well designed that it leaves you begging for more. Overall, the Sansa Connect may well change what you expect from portable media players. It’s that good.
