Strange Markings Lead To Olympic-Level Exposure

They say that the best way to promote a product is not to simply endorse it, but to actually use it. This is why entertainment news programs take the time to identify what celebrities are wearing and using. Spotting and creating trends mean big bucks, so having a popular figure do your advertising for you, intentionally or not, often pays off.

This is certainly what happened with Olympian Kerri Walsh. You can see the obvious question from the picture: what’s that on her shoulder? It’s kinesio tape and here’s what it’s about:

Walsh, who had shoulder surgery last fall to repair a torn rotator cuff, probably wears the thin strips primarily to relieve pain. They also correct muscle and joint function and improve circulation by applying compression to the skin. The tape itself, which goes for $15 a roll, contains no medicinal properties.

Kinesio USA usually gets 250 online orders a month for the tape. That number jumped to 1600 thanks to the Olympic-level exposure. Not bad for unintentional advertising, isn’t it?
