Sony’s James Bond-Casino Royale Laptop

vaio_tx_james_bond.jpgThe ideal ‘ultra-portable’ / PDA-killer laptop has not been made yet by any manufacturer to date, or at least I certainly haven’t seen it. I’m still waiting for some company to pack a fully functional, feature-rich computer into an 8 or 9-inch chassis. I think there’s a sweetspot somewhere between a PDA and current compact laptops that is not being tapped, but Sony is at least getting mildly closer with their latest portable Vaio offering. As part of the James Bond 007 TX Spy Gear comes the 11.1-inch Sony Vaio TX. It’s a featherweight at 2.76 pounds and an incredibly sleek 1-inch thin. I stumbled into the Sony Store recently to touch and feel this device, and I must say it is quite an impressive small package. The carbon casing and aluminum-style keyboard gives it good looks and a very solid feel. Overall, I was pretty impressed with the limited exposure I had with it (hint, if only Sony would send us one to review!) Marketing pot shots aside, Sony legitimately appears to be getting closer to striking the perfect balance between functionality, size and weight with this James Bond offering. If you’re looking for a PDA-killing laptop, this may not be ‘the one’ but it’s definitely worth a look.
