Sony Looking To Test A New Game Machine
By now, everybody knows that the PS3 has been a colossal failure so far. MGS4 had a chance to save it and it failed to do so. Not that it’s MGS4′s fault, of course. It’s a title that publishers dream of, a combination of popularity and critical acclaim, guaranteed to be a bestseller. Still, it wasn’t enough to raise PS3 sales significantly. Now that Final Fantasy XIII is no longer an exclusive, it’s unlikely to change things for the PS3 when it comes out.
With its console in jeopardy, a job post on Sony’s website has caused a little stir. The company is looking for an “evaluator/assessor” for a “new game machine”.
The job listing goes on to state that, if accepted, evaluator/assessor applicants will “be part of an advisory staff that will play PlayStation series software on this new machine and check its functionality. They will also be able to “test game machines not yet released or new functionality of PS3 peripherals before they are released.”
What’s unclear is whether the new device is going to be an actual console—that means a new PlayStation or PSP—or a new peripheral. Sony has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter. We’ll check later and report it when it does.
