Reviews: Saitek Cyborg Gaming Keyboard

Just when I made a post about the latest thing in keyboards, here comes another one that’s less portable but makes up for it in functionality. The Saitek Cyborg Gaming Keyboard looks like it’s ready to do something serious. This is the sort of peripheral that will not look out of place if it was in the set of a science fiction movie. It’s got the style, but does it have the substance? Excerpts:

The cool-factor is in the lighting effects more so than its overall design; it lacks a polished, sleek facade found in keyboards like the Razer Tarantula. The touch-sensitive dashboard complements the keyboard’s futuristic motif and its plethora of controls will keep users busy.

The Cyborg is marred by some clunky keys and crummy software. The spacebar feels like soda was dried up beneath it, and the Cyborg keys give off a cheap, low-end feel. The included software was probably the biggest annoyance. We had trouble getting the darned thing to work properly.

It received a 6.0 out of 10, making my question a close assessment: it is more style than substance. If you think that your gaming rig could use a little spice and you like pretty lights, this will right in. Of course, take note of the problems that the review mentioned because as a gamer, the Saitek Cyborg may not give you the edge that you’re looking for.
