Reviews: Microsoft LifeCam

When I reported about the Microsoft LifeCam a few weeks ago I also noted that it was Microsoft’s first webcam. So, how does it fare? ZDNet has a review:

The good: Excellent image quality, especially in low light; flexible rubber stand provides a stable and versatile base.
The bad: LifeCam app is lackluster; not compatible with Macs.
The bottom line: Despite its uninspired software, the Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 proves its worth with outstanding image quality, a funky and useful design, and low price.

Looks like the waiting paid off. The hardware makes a strong presentation, displaying great image output for a low price. The software part is weak, but that’s easier to remedy than having the camera itself perform poorly. So if you don’t have a webcam or you’re looking for an upgrade, this sounds like a great choice.
