Review: Dell Inspiron Mini 12

Well, that was fast. Here’s a review of the Dell Inspiron Mini 12.

…I can think of plenty of mainstream users – typically the family, friends and workmates of many APC readers – for whom this $999 netbook will really hit the sweet spot by blurring the conventional boundary of form factor and blowing apart the long-standing sub-note barrier of price.

I have incorrectly tagged this as a laptop, which has not been corrected.

Moving forward, I was surprised by the screenshots when I was reading the main article. Form factor and hardware specs aside, I’m wondering why Vista is the chosen OS. Sure, it’s Microsoft’s latest platform, but given its hardware requriements, I’m not sold on the idea that it should be bundled with netbooks. Now that the market has been established, maybe it’s time for MIcrosoft to come up with a lighter version of Vista, one that’s suited to netbooks.

Hey, I can also wish for world peace while I’m at it, right?
