Review: Alienware Area-51 m17x

When you think of a brand for gaming PCs, Alienware is among the names you think of. CNet has a review of the Area-51 m17x gaming laptop, dubbing it as the “biggest and baddest” mobile gaming machine out there. Why? Here’s the breakdown:

The good: Highest-end components; imposing design; fantastic performance.

The bad: Starting configurations are overpriced; touch controls are a bit wonky.

The bottom line: If you’re looking to drop some major change on a show-off gaming laptop, it’s hard to do better than the Alienware Area-51 m17x, a mean-looking, high-performance black slab.

“Overpriced” starts at $1,799. As expected with Alienware, the top-of-the-line configuration exceeds current gaming system requirements, so consider it a future investment in case you’re seriously considering it. Note that the model that does that is at the $6,000 range, so be prepared to shell out some serious dough if you want portable gaming to be at its best.
