Porn Producer Chooses Blu-Ray Over HD-DVD

Sex sells. You know it. I know it. Your mother does not approve, but she knows it too. Probably.

That’s a quote from a post I made a year ago regarding the format war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. The deciding factor in the battle between VHS and Betamax is often credited to porn. The short version of the story is that porn chose VHS and Betamax lost. If history were to repeat itself, then we already have a winner in today’s competition:

What a difference a year makes. At the AVN 2007, we ran a story titled No Porn on Blu-ray?. Today, Prominent adult movie producer Digital Playground says that they plan to stop releasing porn on HD DVD probably by the end of 2008.

And there you have it. Think of it as a comeback of sorts for Sony. Betamax was its format, if you recall, so striking out twice with Blu-Ray, if it happened, would’ve been very painful indeed.
