Nintendo DS E-Reader To Debut In The U.K.

Nintendo is looking to promote the DS as a portable reader. Here’s what you can expect:

Nintendo inked a deal with publisher HarperCollins to turn its DS portable game console in a electronic book reading device in the UK. A new cartridge coming on the market has the full text of about 100 classic (old) books.

If you played Hotel Dusk, then holding your DS sideways isn’t a new thing to do. It was one of the games, possibly the only good one, where players were forced to hold the Nintendo handheld vertically. It took a while to get used to, but for a text-heavy game like Hotel Dusk, it actually felt natural later on. Maybe this is what Nintendo is counting on. Unlike other electronic readers, the DS can be held like a book (or like a really thick greeting card).

Expect the book-loaded cartridge to be available in the UK for now.
