New Search Engine Cuil Fails To Meet Expectations

It was intended to be a Google killer. Cuil, a new search engine that was supposed to be a contender for the top spot currently occupied by Google, is undergoing more than a few hiccups just a few days after it went live. Aside from yielding search results that were described as “unimpressive”, it also experienced performance problems on release day.

In addition, the site has launched with only a Web search engine, at a time when it’s considered a basic requirement for any search engine with aspirations of competing against Google to have at least some basic vertical search tabs for news articles, photos, maps and local business information.

Cuil received considerable attention because former Google engineers were behind it. Now, after successfully marketing the search engine, its people will now have to deal with the backlash that came as a result of reality failing to meet the hype.
