Mozilla Firefox Nails World Record
Well, they did it. Even with the reported server crash, the guys at Mozilla set a world record with its release of Firefox 3, achieving the goal that it set out to do.
The launch of the open source Firefox 3 web browser has set the new Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in 24 hours. Mozilla’s mirrors served 8,002,530 complete, individual downloads during the download day event following the official release of Firefox 3 last month.
Over 8 million downloads! Firefox is clearly one of the most recognizable victories of open source and it’s easy to see why: tabbed browsing, low usage of system resources and, as shown by the numbers, strong community support. Congratulations to everyone involved!
And yes, I am using Firefox 3 to write this post.
