Mobile Phone to Take the Air by 2008

airline-phone-testing.jpgFor the longest time cellular phones have been banned on airplanes. Some thought it was a conspiracy theory. They say that the phones don’t effect the planes, but the companies make more money if you use the in plane phones.

Mythbusters, a popular television show, tested the cell phone and plane interactions and found that it was just a better safe than sorry approach.

Now it looks like by the end of 2008, we will see around 50 percent of airliners offering some in-flight mobile phone connectivity.

For those wishing for silence on the planes, you’ll be happy to know that the cell phone service will be expensive, at over $3 US per minute, thus becoming no better than the phone service they are replacing on the flights.
