Mobile LCD Projectors: Coming Sooner Than You Think
LCD projectors are the sort of devices that are normally associated with offices. They’re bulky and expensive, yet indispensable during meetings and presentations. Given today’s race to make everything portable, it’s inevitable for these devices to follow suit. The New York Times has an article covering the progress of portable LCD projectors and here’s the status report:
Pint-size digital projectors are in the works. These devices, when plugged into cellphones and portable media players, will let consumers beam video content from their hand-held devices to the closest smooth surface — entertaining themselves, annoying their neighbors and possibly contributing to a new warning sign: No Projectors in This Area. The microprojectors, still in prototype, use light-emitting diodes, lasers or a combination of the two to cast a display of up to 50 or 60 inches, or perhaps even wider, in darkened spaces and 7 to 20 inches or so when there is ambient light.
Although no prices have been officially announced yet, the estimated cost is expected to be around $300-350 USD, which is pocket change compared to the tags of its big brothers. These mobile projectors will allow on-the-go presentations. Aside from removing the need for its bulky siblings, presenters will no longer require a room or a wall to project their documents to. Expect models to arrive before the year ends.
