Microsoft To Remove Certain Apps From Windows 7

Microsoft is planning to strip some applications off Windows 7 to make it more manageable. With a reputation of throwing everything including the kitchen sink when it comes to what’s bundled with operating systems, the move is certainly a departure from standard practice.

In a surprise announcement, Microsoft has said that it plans to remove a lot of standard apps from Windows 7 in order to make the new OS ‘cleaner.’ Among the apps for the chop are Windows Mail, Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker, which will no longer be included with the operating system as standard.

This doesn’t mean the above-mentioned applications will be scrapped though. Microsoft will still offer “equivalent versions” through Windows Live as downloads. There’s no word whether they’ll be renamed or repackaged, but it’s good to see that users who like the removed software won’t be left behind without their favorite media tools. One has to wonder what else is facing the chopping block. Perhaps Windows activation? One can also dream.
