Microsoft Reveals The Next Version Of Windows

And so the long wait is over. Microsoft has announced the latest version of Windows and will be calling it—drum roll, please—Windows 7. Here’s the explanation behind the anticlimactic name:
The decision to use the name Windows 7 is about simplicity. Over the years, we have taken different approaches to naming Windows. We’ve used version numbers like Windows 3.11, or dates like Windows 98, or “aspirational” monikers like Windows XP or Windows Vista.
Simply put, this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore “Windows 7″ just makes sense.
The folks are Redmond are going to “stay firmly rooted in our aspirations for Windows Vista, while evolving and refining the substantial investments in platform technology in Windows Vista into the next generation of Windows.” I think I’ve already bashed Windows Vista to death here, so I’m going to play devil’s advocate and jump on the other side of the fence: maybe Windows 7 will show us what Vista was intended to be. I honestly can’t imagine what that would be like, but we’ll find out soon enough.
I wonder how the logo is going to be like.
