Just to bring you guys up to speed, Surface is Microsoft’s answer to tabletop computing. While we all ponder if there was a question to justify the answer in the first place, those of you who have been anticipating it will be glad to know that there’s finally a chance to test it.

Microsoft has announced the limited initial availability of an SDK for the Surface computing environment. Scheduled to be released at the Microsoft Professional Developers conference today. More than 1,000 developers in attendence will receive exclusive rights to access the Surface SDK. Additionally, anyone with access to the SDK will be given the opportunity to purchase a developers unit for the bargain basement price of $13,500.

The said SDK will allow developers to try the multi-touch features, as well as to see how object recognition works. The price for a test unit isn’t exactly pocket change, but if you’ve got the dough, then why not give it a shot?
