Microsoft Offers Free Support For Vista SP1
Microsoft recently released Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista to address the issues found in the operating system. Apparently, it hasn’t been smooth sailing. Instead of fixing problems, some users found the supposed fix to cause crashes and reboot cycles. Microsoft is now offering free technical support for those who are having problems installing the service pack. There are some conditions that need to be met first though:
There are three options available under the free support plan for U.S. users: e-mail support, which will be answered within one business day; online chat, which has a current waiting time of around 40 minutes; and call, available only for users who have a software-assurance agreement, professional contract, TechNet subscription, or MSDN subscription, or for those who come under the Microsoft Partner Program.
Support will be handled on a case-by-case basis, a Microsoft spokesperson said, and the user will always be advised if costs are involved.
The free but conditional support will be available until March 18, 2009, giving everyone a chance to get help regarding the Service Pack. Of course, the catch here is that if you’re an OEM user with an SP1-induced Vista reboot cycle problem, you’re going to need another computer for chat and email access. Hopefully, you have more than one at home.
