Internet Explorer 8 Can Be Disabled In Windows 7

The highly-anticipated Windows 7 has recently shown another feature that previous versions did not include—at least, not in this capacity. In fact, the new design is more on what you can have and not have. Windows 7 is giving users the ability to enable and disable features such as bundled games like solitaire and minesweeper. In an unprecedented move, you can even disable Internet Explorer 8 if you want to.

Microsoft has confirmed that users will be able to remove its IE8 browser, as well as several other integrated applications, from Windows 7. They include Internet Explorer 8, Fax and Scan, handwriting recognition, Windows DVD Maker, Windows Gadget Platform, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, Windows Search, and XPS Viewer and Services.

It’s worth noting that disabling the features does not uninstall or delete the associated files from the system. That’s a good thing in case you change your mind later on. The new customization options certainly add a new dynamic to how Windows is used, both for home users and system administrators. Considering the rise of malware and spyware, those in IT security are probably breathing a sigh of relief knowing that they can now disable the often-exploited built-in browser Internet Explorer.
