How To Fix Your Frozen Zune

Zune owners who found themselves dead in the water in terms of their portable media players will be glad to know that Microsoft has posted a fix for the issue. If you recall, we reported that a problem in the internal clock caused Zunes to freeze on the leap year. The steps below will fix that.

1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
2. Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain. This is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
3. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter, and let it charge.

You can turn on the device afterwards and should be able to use it. Microsoft is going to release a fix in the future so that the problem doesn’t happen again in 2012. That’s the next leap year, in case you were wondering why it’s so special.
