Google Updates Gmail Contacts

Google has announced that it is making four changes to contacts in Gmail that should allow you to organize names and addresses easier than before. The first one in the list is about merging contacts. If you’ve got one person under different names, you can select those entries and hit merge to join them together.
The second change is about all contacts. You should be able to view everyone in your list, making it easier to re-organize and merge when necessary. You can also add your favorite names under My Contacts. Of course, anyone under that particular list can also be removed—that happens to be change number three, by the way—so anyone who fell out of your favor recently can be deleted quickly.
The last update is about search. You should now be able to run queries across all categories. That means you’re not limited to using names and email addresses for search anymore. Phone numbers, notes and even street addresses can be used. Considering that Google’s primarily a search engine, it’s a feature that’s long overdue.
