Google To Take Chrome Out Of Beta
Start rolling out the bandages, first aid kits and medical supplies. A recent report revealed that Google is going to take Chrome out of beta and is moving to release it. A new episode in the browser wars is about to begin and it’s bound to be bloody.
Chrome’s official release comes at a time when Google is accelerating efforts to redefine the browser around open Web standards while adding rich media and secure code extensions. Google’s open source Native Client project is just one possible future for the Chrome platform, where applications can run in a browser but incorporate native code modules.
The benefits of Chrome that are outlined in the source are a bit technical at this point, but suffice to say that these advantages are going to change how the Web works. Also, Google Labs has been very active recently, pumping out feature after feature in the last few weeks. You can expect more as Chrome rolls out. I don’t expect Google to remove Internet Explorer, Firefox and other browsers from the features developed by Labs, but I wouldn’t blame it if it showed Chrome preferential treatment, if you know what I mean.
