Gesture-Based Controls For The PC

Microsoft isn’t the only company that wants your hands off the touchscreen. Mgestyk Technologies is planning to release a system that will allow users to control their PCs using gestures. Here’s how it works:

While the complete details are a bit light at the moment, their system apparently makes use of nothing more than an “affordable 3D camera” and some custom software to capture even small hand gestures…

Check out the video above for a view of the action. The system is versatile enough to recognize arm and hand motions, so be prepared to flash a thumbs-up sign more often than usual if you’re planning to use this. There’s a slight delay between the gesture and the computer’s response. Depending on what you plan to do with it, that can be a minor annoyance or a big drawback. If they can work that problem out, then I’m sure a lot more will take notice.
