From VCR Tapes To Digital Videos
This is the sort of news that should have been published years ago, but the sad thing about technology is that not everyone thinks about backward compatibility and, to some degree, format conversion. Take the VCR, for example. It’s the 1980s equivalent of today’s DVD and high-definition video players. During that time, “home video” referred to two things: a homemade video and a Hollywood movie on VHS, meant to be viewed at home. Fast forward to today and you suddenly have a problem: what do you do with those tapes? Here’s a solution:
Simply stated, Ion’s VCR 2 PC is a VHS player with a USB port. It converts movies into MPEG-4 files, and the included software will take those files and prepare them for various portable devices. Put into perspective, the $250 player is considerably cheaper than buying an entire movie collection all over again on another format.
It also has ports that support VHS and 8mm camcorders, so you can use it as a converter for them as well. It’s a pretty good deal, especially if you have a lot of tapes lying around the house. Time to bring out those old home videos!
