First Impressions: Asus EEE With Windows XP

When it comes to UMPCs, only one name has been standing out as of late: the Asus EEE. Crave has a preview of the XP version that has recently hit retail stores:

Before we got to our benchmarks, we noticed how quickly the boot time was–15 seconds flat–thanks in part to the solid-state drive. We were also able to get more than three hours of battery life running a DivX-based movie on the internal drive, which is better than most mainstream consumer laptops with larger batteries, but not enough for a half day’s worth of work.

It’s an impressive first impression. Crave has yet to post the full review of this one-of-a-kind device, but it looks like that we finally have a UMPC that the general computing public is willing to accept. After several hits and misses, it’s good to see that this line of gadgetry finally has a market it can call its own.
