Designing Personal Choppers

This post sounds like a Mythbusters episode. Technologia Aeroespacial Mexicana (TAM) is planning a personal transport device that promises to take the boredom out of your daily commute. It involves rotor blades, rockets and back straps. Can’t imagine what it is? Take a look at the picture.

The designer, Elio Parruca, says that this is one of the safest and simplest types of strap-on chopper; because there is no engine to generate torque, no tail rotor is needed to stop you spinning.

Wait, no engine? I’m guessing that the rockets attached to the end of the rotor blades provide the power. It’s scary as hell, but definitely thrilling. My only concern is regarding safety. After all, since you’ve already got the Rocket Helicopter strapped to your back, where you keep the parachute?
