Cybernet Gets Upgraded

The Cybernet Keyboard Computer is an all-in-one piece of hardware that serves as your CPU, keyboard and mouse. The only thing missing there is the monitor. Hook it up to your own and you’ve got a complete setup without the bulk of a CPU. A recent report reveals that the Cybernet just received a few upgrades. Here’s a short list:

  • Support for Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors
  • GMA X3100 graphics chipset
  • Support for up to 4GB RAM
  • Integrated slimline optical drive
  • Mini PCI and PCI-e slot

The basic model starts at $629 USD.

The all-in-one theme reminds me of the Commodore 64, a personal computer back in the 80s that came with a keyboard and a disk drive. All you had to do was plug it to your television to make it work. To be fair, it didn’t have a mouse because there was no GUI to speak of, just a command line screen that you used to load the program written on the disk. According to Wikipedia, it’s the best-selling personal computer of all time. Is that a feat that the Cybernet wants to accomplish? Given today’s demands, will the gamble work?
