CES: SimCraft Demos The Apex SC 830

Gaming peripherals have come a long way since the day controllers were released. The traditional 4-way directional pads have been combined with more buttons, analog sticks, force feedback and so forth. Rhythm games paved the way for controllers that are even more far out such as dance pads, guitars and drums. While they come in all shapes and sizes, they share one thing in common: realism. These controllers exist to make the experience feel as real as possible.

This year’s CES brought us the Apex SC 830 from SimCraft. The rig features “three degrees of freedom; 40 degrees of roll, 25 degrees of pitch, and 40 degrees of yaw”, literally encasing you in your own cockpit with 3 monitors to give you a gaming experience unlike any other. Unfortunately, the $40,000 USD price tag isn’t going to bring it to the average person’s living room anytime soon, but SimCraft is hoping they’ll come up with a more affordable unit later on. For now, just marvel at the preview and think of the possibilities that this rig presents.
