Blizzard Introduces Hardware Authenticator For World Of Warcraft
Reports of account hacking in World of Warcraft is becoming nearly commonplace because of how often it happens. As the world’s dominant MMORPG, it’s a favorite target of hackers, trojans and keyloggers. If you happen to be more careful than most, Blizzard’s got your back. The company behind WoW recently announced a hardware authenticator of its own that’s specially designed for the game.
Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today introduced an optional extra layer of security for World of Warcraft®, its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Designed to attach to a keychain, the lightweight and waterproof Blizzard® Authenticator is an electronic device that generates a six-digit security code at the press of a button. This code is unique, valid only once, and active for a limited time; it must be provided along with the account name and password when signing in to the World of Warcraft account linked to it.
Take note that this is completely optional and is not required to login to your WoW account. The authenticator will be available late this month at the Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational. It will also be bought at the online store for $6.50 USD. For peace of mind for your WoW account, that’s dirt cheap.
