ASUS R50a UMPC Released In Europe
ASUS is out to prove that UMPCs come in all shapes and sizes. Its R50a UMPC has begun shipping in Europe and the details are coming in:
The 5.8-inch touchscreen device has a 1.33GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD for storage and runs Vista. There’s also integrated 3G HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth and a massive price: €1,475 ($1,839).
Massive? No kidding. What’s noticeable about it is what’s missing: a keyboard. At first glance, it’s easy to mistake the R50a as an oversized gaming console, but maybe unconventional is exactly what ASUS is looking for here. At nearly $1,900 USD, it’s not a cheap gambit. Let’s see if this one ever crosses over to our side.
