Google’s idea of an April Fool’s Day joke is the Gmail Custom Time. It works just like it sounds: it allows users to set a custom time in their email, making a message they sent today seem like they sent it two years ago in the recipient’s mailbox. It’s perfect for winning arguments about how late you are and for earning the respect of your peers through your promptness. There’s a catch though: you can only set it as far as April 1, 2004, the day Gmail was launched. Google explains how it made custom time possible:

How does it work?

Gmail utilizes an e-flux capacitor to resolve issues of causality.

I love it when they make Back To The Future references.
