Apple iPhone Launch Imminent?
Apple’s long-rumoured entry into the cellular handset industry appears to not only be well-founded, but the launch of the ‘iPhone’ could be coming any day now according to comments made by Softbank’s president. Softbank recently acquired Vodafone Japan and one of the reasons cited for Vodafone’s recent struggles has been the lack of appealing handsets to its local markets. A marriage between Apple and Softbank appears to make sense.
Nihon Keizai Shimbun said that Softbank president, Masayoshi Son and Apple CEO, Steve Jobs had met and reached a basic agreement on the partnership, and that they would release a 3G iPhone for the Japanese market sometime in 2006.
