Anti-DMCA Supporters Reach 90,000
It’s been a while since we last heard of the Canadian DMCA and it looks like its opponents have been making huge leaps in making sure that their protests are heard. In case you didn’t know, a lot of Canadians are fighting back, and the number of people participating in the resistance is impressive: 90,000.
At the heart of the matter is Bill C-61, which was introduced in June as a countermeasure against online piracy, making violators pay a $500 fine. Its supporters are calling it a solution. Its opponents are calling it something else.
“We’re talking about more than just copyright here. We’re talking about the digital environment,” he said. “This legislation represents a real threat to the vibrancy of that online environment.”
