Amazon Kindle Sales Figures Hit Half A Million
If you happen to be one of the regular readers of this blog, then you’ll know that I had my doubts about netbooks back when they were first introduced. Now that they’re serious players in the hardware market, it’s time to look at the other devices that I was uncertain of: e-readers. At the forefront of them all is the Amazon Kindle. How well did it do last year?
Via a research note, Citi analyst Mark Mahaney now thinks Amazon sold 500,000 Kindles last year, more than his previous estimate of 380,000. (And if Amazon hadn’t run out of Kindles in November, it could have potentially sold 750,000, Mahaney estimates.)
That’s a lot of Kindles sold! Let me ask you a question though: can you name another e-reader? Chances are, you probably can’t. To tell you the truth, nothing’s coming to mind either, so that could be another factor to the Kindle’s success other than being a solid device. With no competition in sight, Amazon can continue to milk this cash cow for what it’s worth.
