Amazon Announces Kindle 2

Amazon has made it official: Kindle 2 is going to be released on the 24th of February. The popular e-reader was recently reported to have sold half a million units and it looks like the online retailer is going to continue its sales streak with the release of version 2. What’s new with this model? Check it out.

  • Size: 1/3 inch thick, 10.2 ounces
  • 3G wireless connection downloads books straight to the Kindle in under 60 seconds.
  • Improved display supports 6 font sizes and 16 shades of gray for easier reading. Pages also turn 20% faster.
  • Battery life is 25% longer than the previous version.
  • Improved Display: Reads like real paper; now boasts 16 shades of gray for clear text and even crisper images
  • The new Text-to-Speech feature lets your Kindle read to you. With a capacity to hold over 1,500 books, the feature is sure to be quite the storyteller.

We’ll keep an eye out for reviews when the product is released. On paper, the new Kindle certainly looks exciting. We’ll see if it can actually deliver.
