Some companies make it a point to inform users of what projects they’re working on. It makes good PR, there’s the chance fix bugs by running a beta and there’s always the possibility that an online community may form as a result, spreading awareness for the products. At the forefront of that is Microsoft. Here’s a sample of what’s in store for us:

Codename: Eagle 1

Imagine a natural disaster such as a hurricane or a tsunami as it ravages a populated area. Hours later, you would expect search and rescue teams to come flying in and saving lives. However, the disaster has brought communication lines down, making coordination difficult if not impossible. Eagle 1 is designed to create maps that would not only indicate terrain, but also lay out schools, hospitals and other key structures within a target region. This would make it a valuable tool for teams working in emergency situations.

As always, head to the source for the full list, which includes Surface, among other things. The nice thing about is that there’s an estimated release date (when applicable), so if you find something you like, you’ll know how long you’ll have to wait for it.
